Funeral of Serjeant-Major M’Allister
Royal Hospital.
This morning the remains of the late Sergeant Major H. M’Allister were interred in Glasnevin Cemetery. The cortege left the Old Man’s House at 10.30 o’clock headed by the band of the Derbyshire Regiment playing the Funeral March, after which came the hearse containing the coffin alongside which walked several non-commissioned officers of the Ordnance Store Corps, in which department the disceased served for a considerable time. A large number of the inpatients of the institution commanded by Captain Fielding, Adjutant, walked in procession two deep, many of them wearing several medals for hardfought battles. Field Marshal Viscount Wolsey, K.P., Commander of the Forces, attended by Colonel Childers, Military Secretary; Colonel Lascelles A G; Capt.Bethel R E; and Lieut. Somerset A D C, walked after the mourners to the Kingsbridge, where the band and military broke off. A large number of carriages containing friends of the deceased, who was highly respected, then continued the journey to the cemetery. Mr. M’Allister served with the 30th. Regiment in the Crimean campaign, where he was severely wounded and invalided.
